France's Anti-Smoking Ban Stirs Conflict Amongst Hookah Bar Owners

by HookahGenie 3 comments

In France, smoking tobacco in public became against the country's law. Whom ever caught smoking in public would be fined 68 euros. This means that all hookah bars in France would initially go out of business, which is the case.

Imagine owning a sushi bar and tomorrow the state of France bans the consumption of raw fish. What do you think would happen to that business? You guessed it. It will close down.

The same problem is occuring in France with hookah bar owners who invested their whole life savings in their bars and now no one shows up at their lounge because smoking tobacco is illegal in France. Now there are various lawsuits coming against the state legislature for compensation of money lost.

This is a very hard situation for both the state and the hookah owners, who some used to get their main source of income from their lounges. We will have to see what's going to come out of this mess.
